Minister of Economy, Blendi Gonxhja, was the most voted candidate from the open lists, winning the trust of 24,802 citizens of Tirana, who voted for him in the May 11 elections.
The high number of preferential votes, according to Gonxha, is a great responsibility, but he did not hide his pride in the result.
" There is no doubt that it is a very big burden. It is a joy, it is a pride, it is a pleasure when you see the result, but on the other hand it is automatically a very heavy, very big responsibility, which must be immediately translated into rolling up your sleeves to work, " Gonxha said.
Asked whether this vote of confidence will pave the way for him to run for the Municipality of Tirana, Gonxha responded to journalists by saying that the May 11 elections and their result have no connection to the local by-elections that may be held for the capital.
" I think that the Municipality of Tirana officially has its own mayor, has its own election date at its own time. I think it has nothing to do with this. Of course, the very positive expectations of the capital's residents, in this case of the Tirana District, fill me with pride, but let me tell you, I see no direct connection with the Municipality of Tirana ," said the minister.
