Immigrants in Lezha, the Security Commission approves the agreement with Italy

The Assembly gave the first green light to the agreement with Italy for the establishment of the reception center for immigrants in Lezha by approving it in the Security Commission.

The majority responded to the opposition's attempt to block the meeting by holding it online. The agreement was presented by the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, where he stated that no immigrant who is transferred from Italy will have the right to apply for asylum in Albania, while their exit from the camp is prohibited.

The Democrats showed up in large numbers at the Security Committee to block the development of the meeting. This time they had a double reason, not only the civil disobedience within the parliament, but also the agenda where the agreement for immigrants with Italy was included for consideration.

Unable to convince the Democrats, the Socialists fired up the Zoom platform by going online. Taulant Balla presented the act stating that in the camp that will be built in Gjadër i Lezha, no more than 3,000 immigrants will be able to stay at the same time and that they are prohibited from leaving.

But what happens when they escape, can they get asylum in Albania?

" Whoever goes out, returns to the camp. They do not have the right to seek asylum as they will return to Italy. "

The opposition qualifies this agreement as unconstitutional and the head of the Security Commission, Nasip Naço, chose to make legal opposition.

" The agreement is completely based on the constitution. "

In the absence of Democrats, the agreement found consensus in its approval in principle. The act will now be reviewed by the laws committee before it goes for approval in the December 21 plenary session.   (A2 Televizion)
