Only 21 safe seats will be reserved for the winners of the primaries on the Democratic Party lists. And it remains to be seen whether those who emerged victorious will be reflected in the closed lists.
But despite the discussions, Democratic MP Dashnor Sula said it would be a great loss for the DP if this process were not carried out. This was one of the promises made by Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha before he took over the leadership of the party.
"Why? Because all the debates about Berisha, the Re-establishment, the Statute would be raised. Berisha is considered a man of his word. And if they weren't done, everything would be undone."
However, Sula added that the primaries are an important element for the Democratic Party, but not necessarily decisive.
"It is important that when selecting the candidates nominated on the list of deputies, we have the best possible figures, the most combative, the most uncontroversial, who attract votes, who are real horses in the field," he added.
The primary candidate in Elbasan, Silvi Bardhi, also advocated for a united DP, adding that the situation on the ground suggests that the Democrats already want a return.
"We have an army that is together and working with a single goal, the victory of the Democratic Party. We do not work to be on the safe list... The Democrats want change, they want the return of the DP, they want the departure of the Socialist Party. Even the wavering ones want change." (A2 Televizion)
