For three legislatures, Helidon Bushati has represented the Shkodra district in the Albanian Parliament as a member of the Democratic Party, but the May 11 elections will mark the end of his experience as a legislator in the Assembly.
Bushati has announced through a post on social networks that he will not be included in the Democratic Party's primaries and consequently his name will not be on the list of candidates for MP.
"Soon, the Democratic Party will enter an important process, that of the primaries. Personally, I have chosen not to participate in the primaries and as a result I give up my aspirations to be a candidate for MP," says Bushati.
Bushati says that the decision not to compete "is not simply a personal decision ," but is "an act of political and moral responsibility . "
However, he underlines that this decision will not mark his final withdrawal from active politics. Bushati states that he will continue to stand by the Democratic Party and the Democrats in their common journey and challenges.
" Coherent in my beliefs, unwavering in the values for which we have fought, and fully committed to the resurgence and victory that we all aim for the Democratic Party and its leader Sali Berisha. I am convinced, more than ever, that MODERNIZATION and UNIFICATION are the keys to victory. We owe it to our children, we owe it to history! Together towards victory ," Bushati further writes.
