A few minutes before the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation, the press office at the Municipality of Tirana distributed edited material to the media announcing that Veliaj was live from a newly completed kindergarten in the Yzberisht area.
But just a few minutes after being broadcast by several media outlets, the material was immediately removed, as Veliaj was at that moment in his office, where he was arrested by BKH agents on the orders of SPAK for the charges against him, writes A2 CNN.
Mayor Erion Veliaj, after accusations of corruption and the investigation against him and his family, is now in the security block, where former president Ilir Meta is also being held.
Veliaj was arrested by order of SPAK on 4 charges (abuse of office, active corruption, passive corruption, failure to declare assets and money laundering) and the mayor was placed under the security measure of 'prison arrest' until a decision is made by the GJKKO.
It is also learned that the Court has approved the security measure "house arrest" for Veliaj's wife, Ajola Xoxaj, writes A2 CNN.
