At the EU-Western Balkans meeting, held in Skopje as part of the European Union's Growth Plan for the region, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that the country is at the closest point ever to integrating into the European family.
"We have never been closer to realizing a centuries-old aspiration. And on the other hand, I am glad that there is a general positive atmosphere in this regard. We are very close. We have never been closer, and I strongly believe that we will fulfill all our obligations as we have foreseen the deadlines with the European Commission and the joint plan will be fully realized," Rama declared, writes A2 CNN.
The meeting, focused on concretizing the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, an initiative proposed by the European Commission to accelerate the region's economic and institutional rapprochement with the EU, marked a turning point for Albania and other countries in the region. The Albanian Prime Minister underlined that intensive work with the European Commission and mutual cooperation have brought concrete progress in fulfilling the conditions and standards set by Brussels.
The Growth Plan includes gradual access to the European single market, increased investment, structural reforms and financial assistance to support the economic and democratic transition of the Western Balkan countries. Albania, according to Rama, has taken the necessary steps to benefit from this ambitious plan and use it as a springboard towards full EU membership. (A2 Televizion)
