"Integration is existential", Rama in Luxembourg: We aim to close the

At a joint press conference in Luxembourg with Radosław Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland (which holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU), and Marta Kos, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Edi Rama stated that integration for Albania is existential.

He stated that within 2027, Albania aims to close the chapters. Rama emphasized that for Albania, EU membership is more than a political or policy ambition, but an existential life choice.

"Today we are here again to open the second group of chapters. I can only express words of gratitude to the Polish presidency, for its stable leadership and for taking this process forward. We are equally grateful to the other EU states for taking this process forward without obstacles, which seems incredible from us, considering where we come from. Marta Kos became a champion for her country and has now become a stopwatch for our countries, so that every move takes us forward with discipline. We have agreed on a very ambitious agenda.

We are looking forward to the fact that by 2027, all the group chapters will not only be opened, but also closed. It is really super ambitious, but we are here to reconfirm our determination and passion to achieve this objective. I am sure that my two dear friends, for Albania, EU membership is more than a political or policy ambition, but an existential life choice. We know very well and we have learned that our individual freedoms, "said Rama.

Albania opens another chapter with the EU, Sikorski: Vital for economic integration

Albania opened this Monday the second group chapter of the accession negotiations with the European Union. The fourth intergovernmental conference took place at 18:00 and was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radosław Sikorski, in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

At the joint press conference, Radosław Sikorski emphasized that the chapters we opened today are vital for Albania's economic integration.

"The Polish presidency's ambition for enlargement has been something we have been working on continuously, side by side with the Commission. The chapters we opened today are vital for economic integration into the EU internal market. They cover key economic areas. The reforms will lead to economic alignment with the EU, increase trade opportunities and make Albania more attractive for investment," he stressed.

The second negotiating chapter opened today is "Internal Market" and contains;

- Chapter 1 (Free movement of goods)

- Chapter 2 (Free Movement of Workers)

- Chapter 3 (Right of establishment and freedom to provide services)

- Chapter 4 (Free movement of capital)

- Chapter 6 (Legislation on Commercial Companies)

- Chapter 7 (Intellectual Property Rights)

- Chapter 8 (Competition policy)

- Chapter 9 (Financial Services)

- Chapter 28 (Consumer and health protection).

We recall that in October 2024, during Hungary's presidency of the European Union, our country officially opened the first and most important chapter group, that of the "Fundamental" chapters, which affect justice, administration and the rule of law. A few weeks later, on December 17, the chapter group on external relations was opened, with talks on foreign policy and security. (A2 Televizion)
