Besnik Mustafaj was on the front line of the events of December 1990, when the great student movement started, which brought the fall of the communist system and the establishment of political pluralism.

"The overthrow of that system was the greatest work that Albanians have done after Independence in 1912, and I am proud to have been a part of it. My generation had a big dream of freedom. Freedom for us was a very beautiful dream, but the transition from dream to reality is another problem. It is very difficult to administer freedom and the administration of freedom is about democracy", said the writer who deals with politics, as he called himself, during an interview in "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli, on A2 CNN.

Mustafaj also showed the exact moment when he realized that that system had come to an end. "Together with Berisha, we went to the students who on December 9 were trying to go to Skënderbej Square and the police had blocked them on the street near the Liceu. When the police intervened and dispersed them and Sali Berisha started shouting as he knows, when he gets angry, "shoot them with a machete". But when I saw that the people in the surrounding houses accepted them into their homes and hid the students, I realized that these people were afraid, so this regime had come to an end," he said.

"Those palaces were civil servants, they were not autochthonous tyrants. So when those civil servants, part of the system, accepted them at home and hid them... until yesterday, no one dared to do that... When they hid them, then I realized that the Albanians finally... ". (A2 Televizion)
