The Constitutional Court began this Tuesday reviewing the legality of the law on the Academy of Sciences, following a lawsuit by the Democratic Party seeking its repeal.
In the first plenary session, the Democrats, represented by MP Ina Zhupa, presented their demands as to why this law should be repealed.
According to the DP MP, the law has several violations, ranging from violating the principle of equality for academy members to voting procedures in the Assembly.
Democrats, at the time of its approval, claimed that the law was tailor-made for Skënder Gjinushi, since as president of the Academy he is allowed to run for a second term, while 75-year-old members are not allowed to do so.
On the other hand, the Assembly took the opposite position. The Constitutional Court, after hearing the parties, is expected to rule in the coming sessions whether the law violates the constitution or is fully legal. (A2 Televizion)
