Albania-Kosovo joint meeting, the agenda is revealed

In the joint meeting between the two assemblies, only 60 deputies will come from Albania, while the parties in Kosovo are left to confirm the number of deputies who will participate due to space.

On the agenda will be the speech of the two presidents of the Assemblies, the address of the two prime ministers and the address of the presidents of the parliamentary groups.

Holding this session at this time is the only period of time that the Kosovo legislature can meet due to the elections in February.

In total, 130 MPs are expected to gather, 70 legislators from the parliament of Kosovo and another 60 from the parliament of Albania. Prime Minister Edi Rama and the head of the government of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, will be present at this meeting.

In the anticipated agenda of this meeting, which this time will take place in Pristina, it is predicted that after the anthems of both countries, the meeting will start with the speech of the Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, followed by the Speaker of the Parliament of Albania, Elisa Spiropali. This meeting will conclude with a speech by Kurt and Rama.

"On December 20, at 11:00 a.m., in Pristina, in the hall of the plenary sessions of the Assembly of Kosovo, the joint meeting of the Assembly of Albania and the Assembly of Kosovo will take place", announced the Assembly of Albania.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Elisa Spiropali, said that the joint meeting of the Assembly of Albania and the Assembly of Kosovo, which will be held in Pristina on December 20, is a need for the coordination of our national agenda.

"This joint Assembly comes as a need for the coordination of our national agenda for the realization of strategic objectives, Albania's membership in the EU, the Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo, the protection and advancement of the rights of Albanians and the increase of the contribution of the Albanian factor in the development , democratization, peace and security in the region and beyond".

The last meeting between the two assemblies was on November 27, 2022, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Independence.

The Presidency of the Assembly of Kosovo met today at 11:00. On the agenda of this meeting is the organization of the joint Kosovo-Albania parliamentary session.

We remind you that since 2022, the Government of Kosovo and that of Albania have not held a joint meeting.

After the cancellation of the 2023 meeting by the Prime Minister of Albania, no date has yet been set for when the two governments will meet.

The tradition of meetings between the two governments began in 2014, where the two governments met in Prizren, the city of the League of Prizren with the motto "The City of the League welcomes you". At that time, the Government in Kosovo was headed by Hashim Thaçi.

The next joint meeting was held on March 23, 2015 in Tirana with the theme "One land, one people, one dream". At that time, Isa Mustafa was in the Government.

In 2016, the meeting was returned to Pristina, and the prime minister was Isa Mustafa.

While in 2017 the two Albanian governments came together in the city of Korça, led by Edi Rama and Ramush Haradinaj.

In 2018, the meeting was held in Peja on November 26, and this year Ramush Haradinaj was in government as well. In 2020, the meeting of the two cabinets was held in Tirana by the Hoti Government and the Rama 2 Government. In 2021, the Kurti Government and the Rama Government met in Elbasan.

The last meeting between the cabinet of Kurti and Rama took place in Pristina, on June 20, 2022. The government of Kosovo and that of Albania reached agreement on 19 points in different sectors.

Agreements of the Ministries of Education, Agreement on energy, Agreement on agriculture, Agreement on the railway, Agreement on health, Agreement on tourism.

Among the 13 agreements signed, there were the facilitation of the procedure for obtaining a residence permit, the regulation of the local border traffic regime, the opening of the common border crossing point between Kukës and Dragash, facilities in customs procedures and control of goods, the joint annual cultural calendar between the two countries and the recognition of diplomas.

In 2020, a joint statement was also signed between the two governments and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania, to recommend to the Assembly of Kosovo and the Assembly of Albania the supervision of the implementation of the agreements signed between the two governments.

About 100 agreements have been signed in the meetings held so far. Over the years, the prime ministers of the two countries have said that these agreements will ease the lives of citizens on both sides of the border.
