Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his "Sy m'sy" column on Facebook, has intervened in a debate among commentators on salaries in Greece.
One commentator said that Albanian children graduate from high school and leave for Scandinavian countries, because “if it were better in Greece they would work for 800 euros.” Another commentator replied that this was a lie, as he worked as a shepherd in Greece for 1,000 euros, with the owner paying for his house.
Rama's response was this: "There have been no old 250 thousand lek salaries in Albania for a long time. Second, the salary is what it seems, but after that there are also taxes. And just so you know, 57% of salaries in Albania have no tax at all, while 36% of them have from 4 to 10% tax. Only salaries over 1300 euros have a tax over 10%. In tourism and construction in Albania, you get what you pay in Greece and pay less tax. While when you are outside your city, the company pays for both accommodation and food. These are facts and these also explain the return of those who have started working in tourism because they find it better somewhere. The times are no longer the same. The world is no longer the same, Europe is no longer the same today as it was yesterday and the cost of living in Europe has increased so much that there are no more savings like before. "Therefore, let everyone take a good look at their options and decide to return fully or partially. In a few years we will be members of the EU, everything will change, but whoever returns today gives themselves the opportunity to gain more in advance than if, with entry into the EU, everything becomes the same as everywhere else."
