At the third intergovernmental table with the EU, Albania opened two chapters on foreign policy. According to Prime Minister Edi Rama, the tasks that our country must fulfill for these groups of chapters are not as difficult as negotiations for the rule of law, public administration or the fight against corruption.
"For this group of chapters that we have opened today, it is not very difficult, because Albania has always been in harmony with EU policies in terms of diplomacy, security, and the Albanians themselves are supportive of these types of policies. We have made a clear choice as a nation, that we want to "marry" the EU and forget all the "divorces" of the past", said Rama, writes A2 CNN.
Brussels once again informed Edi Rama that Albania's European path to the EU cannot be described alone, without the involvement of all actors in Tirana.
"I have faith in Albania's determination to work hard for these negotiations and I count on you to be committed to all the reforms for this process. Looking at the national consensus in terms of negotiations, the involvement should not only come from the government or the parliament, but also from the civil society, every individual and every citizen", said the Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.
In Brussels, Edi Rama once again reiterated his ambition to sit next to the leaders of the EU with full rights by 2030. "There is no doubt in our minds that a Europe with the Western Balkans will be more stronger and more united. And it will be safer. Therefore, our ambition is not a secret. We want to make sure that we have done our homework and that our negotiations are closed in 2027, with the hope that our EU membership will be completed within this decade," said Rama.
"Today was for the opening, Mr. Rama, but we will also start with their closure within my 5-year mandate, with great hope," said Kos.
In order to achieve this objective of the Prime Minister of Albania, according to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Brussels must give up the bureaucracies. Not sparing criticism of the EU, he praised the work of the Hungarian Presidency for the integration of the Western Balkans.
"In 2 months we had two intergovernmental conferences. Two sets of chapters have been opened and this speed is unprecedented. So, more has happened in the last two months than in the past 15 years. I say that this represents success for Albania, for the Hungarian presidency and the European Union. We would like all the countries of the Western Balkans to already be part of the European Union", said Peter Szijjarto.
A2 CNN has learned that, according to the projection of the Albanian negotiating group, the fourth intergovernmental conference with the EU will be held in March, while the fifth in December 2025. (A2 Televizion)
