In Fier, as throughout the country, the voting process for the May 11 parliamentary elections began this Sunday morning.
The Fier district has 381,524 voters and 32,553 registered voters in the diaspora, while electing 16 deputies, mandates that will be distributed based on the votes won by political entities and candidates in the race, which ranks the district second only to Tirana for the largest number of deputies leading to the Albanian Parliament, writes A2.
The Fier region consists of 6 municipalities, the largest of which is Fier, which comes to these elections with 157,761 voters, who will go to the ballot boxes in 97 polling centers. The number of 18-year-olds voting for the first time in these elections is also the second largest in the country after Tirana. Approximately 12,783 high school graduates are expected to go to the ballot boxes today. As determined by the CEC instructions, the voting centers opened at 7:00, after the commissioners implemented the procedures of the Electoral Code, from securing the ballot boxes, ballot papers, secret rooms to voter identification devices.
According to the left and right commissioners, the process has started normally and no problems have been observed. We recall that just one day before the election silence, the SP candidate for Fier County, Kiduina Zaka, denounced the DP that her commissioners were ordered not to show up on time at the polling stations in order to delay the start of the process on Sunday.
In the Municipality of Fier, there are three CEAZs for counting votes, 58, 59 and 60, while 514 State Police officers have been engaged throughout the district for the smooth running of the process. CEAZ no. 60, the largest and known as the city's CEAZ, has 6 voting centers, where the political leader of the SP district, Belinda Balluku, is also expected to vote, along with her son, while Gazment Bardhi will vote in Kavaja.
The Socialist political leader of the district, Belinda Balluku, heads the SP list, while the DP political leader heads the closed list for this district. Sali Berisha has also given a safe place to Ilir Meta's party, where the Freedom Party candidate, Brunilda Haxhia, is fourth on the closed list for the Fier District.
There are 11 parties and coalitions on the ballot. For the Fier Region, each subject has 5 candidates on the closed list and 16 on the open list. The Fier Region has been considered a hot zone during this campaign where several electoral incidents have also been recorded. Among the 54 criminal proceedings that have been registered in the prosecutor's offices of general jurisdiction for criminal offenses in the field of elections, 5 cases have been registered in the Fier Prosecutor's Office. We recall that the first case of active corruption in the framework of the parliamentary elections of May 11 was recorded in the city of Lushnja. Meanwhile, in today's elections, 404 citizens with the right to vote are expected to vote in the Fier prison. The number of votes needed for a mandate will depend on the participation, which is unpredictable since our country has undergone demographic changes from year to year.
Measures have also been envisaged to facilitate access for vulnerable groups, including the elderly and people with disabilities, while the electoral process will be followed by local and international observers who will monitor the progress of the voting and respect for democratic standards. We recall that in the 2021 parliamentary elections, the SP secured 9 mandates, the PD 6, and the LSI 1. (A2 Televizion)
