Prime Minister Edi Rama was seen leaving the Tirana Municipality building, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Anisa Ruseti. The visit comes a day after the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj, on orders from SPAK.

According to sources, Rama met there with several deputy mayors.

During a Facebook live broadcast this morning, Rama complained that Veliaj was arrested “without trial” and that Tirana was “beheaded.”

"We will create a consolidated opinion on the indictment for which the judge decided to remove the head of the Municipality of Tirana. It is about a very strange investigative process, started by an anonymous short story, submitted last February to SPAK, which has spawned a 400-page novel. It reached the point that even a mother of a 6-year-old child was sentenced to house arrest," said Rama, writes A2.

"Who gives justice to this child to eat? We have had other cases that have been treated differently. The lack of this uniformity is of such weight that not a single word should be said today without understanding what crimes are allegedly discovered to leave Tirana without a mayor and without trial. I am talking about proven crimes, not promoted in the media," the prime minister added.

Edi Rama also emphasized that the time has come for critical opinions to be expressed about the new justice system, as, according to him, it is necessary at this stage.

"The new justice system has entered a phase that has gained all the necessary trust and our support will continue the same. But, there is no reason not to express our critical opinions, which are necessary for the justice system as an independent body to investigate and strike left and right whoever it considers reasonable, but also as a justice system with European standards. It has been 5 years that they have been talking back and forth, except for the force that governs the country. Our silence has helped the new justice institutions until today, when it is clear that what they lack is critical opinion. Our silence has been misunderstood not only by the enemies of the Justice Reform. An increasingly European justice system is expected from prosecutors and the court, therefore sharing critical opinions with the public is the most important thing we can do", declared Edi Rama.
