The Democratic Party presented this afternoon the program for the Environment, Forests and Pastures sector of "Great Albania". In his speech, Democratic leader Sali Berisha accused the socialist government of having severely damaged the environment in 12 years, making Albania unlivable, according to him. The Democratic leader emphasized that the mafia has occupied these areas, which according to him constitute a national emergency.
"What stands out today in these 12 years can be said to be a major reversal. I don't want to use terms, but it is an ignorance, it is an invasion by the mafia of these fields. The environment, to which human health is directly related, is more abandoned, more threatened than rarely in history. The environment is today completely dominated, manipulated, damaged by the purely mafia interests of the government clientele. Albania, which for some circumstances could have the most enviable environments in Europe, has its capital, one of the 10-12 most polluted cities on the planet."
Under these conditions, Berisha emphasized that the DP project aims to establish the best European standards.
"Standards that aim for a healthy environment, a clean environment, a monitored environment, a developed environment. The environmental complex, the factors that interact in the environment, will receive all the attention and commitment. There is no doubt that real afforestation will be a central direction. Afforestation will be intertwined with the planting of fruit trees. But this does not mean that we will give up planting other native trees for the areas where they are. The reconstruction of the institutions of these fields, their activity in accordance with European standards, will be our commitment to the Albanians."
Berisha guaranteed that his government will be more environmentally friendly and will adopt laws that protect the land, air and water.
"I assure you that we will not leave a law unapproved, a criterion unimplemented, an investment unmade, to mark a radical turn in the preservation and development of the environment, of protected areas, of their infinite wealth. Protection from air, land, and water pollution. For us, they are and will remain great priorities. We will do everything so that Albanians, in accordance with the best standards, benefit maximally from the infinite wealth of the forests, hills, mountains, and pastures of this country. Of aromatic, medicinal, and other plants. We will rebuild an efficient infrastructure with all the institutions and institutes necessary to fulfill this mission, to restore to Albania and Albanians a healthy environment, a prosperous natural environment. I invite you to submit any proposal you have to the department heads according to the fields."
