The meeting of the European Political Community will take place in Tirana on May 16, 2025. A2 CNN learns that this meeting, an initiative of the President of France Emmanuel Macron, will be held 5 days after the parliamentary elections in Albania.
The meeting of the European Political Committee will bring European leaders together and will be an opportunity for Albania in the process of integration and strengthening of democratic institutions.
Also, it is an opportunity to discuss the future of the region and deepen cooperation with other countries of the European Political Community.
The previous summit of the European Political Community was held in Budapest on November 7, chaired by Hungarian President Viktor Orban.
Earlier, the possibility of holding this summit on May 9 was discussed, for which the small parties raised the claim that it would affect the outcome of the parliamentary elections, which will take place on May 11, proposing to President Begaj on May 4 for conducting elections.
Four days ago, President Begaj decreed the date of May 11, 2025 for the parliamentary elections. In his argument for this date, he emphasized that the institution of the presidency has received the agreement from the internationals that the meeting of the European Political Community will be held after May 11.
The head of state held meetings in the Presidency with all political actors, but was rejected by the opposition, considering those consultations as a farce, since according to her, Begaj had set the date of the elections by order of Prime Minister Edi Rama. (A2 Televizion)
