At the last meeting of the Municipal Council in Durres held on Wednesday afternoon, the way was paved for the massive deforestation of the Lalez Bay area, with the aim of building a tourist complex. Together with the votes of the Freedom Party Councilors, by a total of 31 votes in favor, the councilors voted for the draft decision proposed by the Municipality of Durres, to change the category of an 8,000 square meter forest area in the Lalez Bay area.
The Freedom Party councilors joined the votes of the left-wing councilors and with 31 votes in favor, the draft decision was approved. While the right-wing councilors were only 3 present at the meeting and they voted against. The construction of the tourist resort, part of a series of resorts in the area with the same name, has previously received the approval of the National Territorial Council (KTK).
Councilors Ardian Muka and Dritan Burgija expressed in their speech to the council that they were not against development, but the Durrës coast has been concreted and another resort will translate into less greenery.
Left-wing councilors said the complex is expected to give a major boost to tourism development and will employ dozens of workers. But despite all the debates, this draft decision has already paved the way for another resort in one of the most coveted tourist areas in Lalzi Bay. (A2 Televizion)
