President Begaj in the US, meets with senior American official

The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, met in Dayton, Ohio, with the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America, Mr. Christopher Landau.

President Begaj expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Secretary of State for the historic friendship and strategic partnership that the United States has with Albania. President Begaj underlined the fact that the United States of America has been a steadfast supporter and has played a decisive role in historic moments of the Albanian nation.

President Begaj appreciated the Albania-US partnership and the assistance provided by the United States of America, especially in carrying out justice reform and the rule of law, in developing democracy and strengthening institutions, in the field of defense and security with a special focus on cybersecurity.

"We are grateful for the support that the US has provided to the democratization, transformation and modernization of our Armed Forces and in particular the historic reform of the justice system," said the President of the Republic during this meeting.

Regarding economic relations, the President of the Republic underlined that Albania remains hopeful and with its great desire to continue bilateral cooperation and economic assistance in the future: "We invite American investors, as Albania offers investment opportunities in tourism, strategic infrastructure, technology and cybersecurity. We also encourage United States companies to invest in strategic sectors of the Albanian economy. US projects, such as those in renewable energy or digital transformation, create employment opportunities and modernize the Albanian economy", - emphasized President Begaj.

Regarding regional cooperation, President Begaj praised the important role that the United States has played and continues to play in the region.

The Head of State conveyed to the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America, Mr. Christopher Landau, the need for the continuation of the American presence in the region as an irreplaceable factor for peace, security and stability. 

The President appreciated the role of the US in NATO and acquainted Mr. Landau with Albania's commitment to increasing its defense budget. "Being a member of NATO means taking on responsibilities and Albania is committed to fulfilling them." (A2 Televizion)
