Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the European Union is having difficulty coming up with a joint decision.
Rama made the comments immediately after the conclusion of the KPE Summit, which took place in Tirana, as he held a conversation with producer Richard Attias, one of the organizers of the FII (Future Investment Initiative).
To explain his statement, Rama said that the EU has many doctors for one patient, who, according to the prime minister, compete with each other to find the diagnosis, writes A2 CNN.
The chief executive added that the EU is suffering from this democratic process, but that, according to him, on the other hand, it undoubtedly needs to preserve democracy.
Excerpts from the discussion:
Richard Attias: A few months ago, at the Munich Security Conference, you said that the EU is more “E” than “B”, it is more European than Union. How do you think we can solve this problem, which many people agree with you on? So how can we make the EU truly united?
Prime Minister Edi Rama: Listen, one of the problems I see in the EU is the difficulty of coming up with a decision, since there are many doctors for one patient, who fight with each other to find the diagnosis, fight over what is the right treatment and, in a way, the EU is suffering from this democratic process, but, on the other hand, it definitely needs to preserve democracy. However, the essence of this is that the EU must think that the only way to stand up to the powers that are emerging and this new order that is emerging is to do the unthinkable to strongly break the prejudices that have been created. When we organized the KPE, I told everyone that we have decorated this house with children's drawings, but I see many similarities between the dreams of children and the dreams of the founding fathers of Europe, because neither one nor the other was held hostage by the myths of the past. So, Europe needs to go beyond its past, I mean the recent past, and it must not lose its conviction and self-confidence as a continent of peace. So, it is good to rearm, it is good to prepare to defend itself, but we must not forget that, in Europe, it is not only the physical territory that is worth defending, but also the soul of Europe, which is practically the soul of the world. If we lose this soul, we may even have the most powerful army, but what will we defend? (A2 Televizion)
