Minister of Interior Ervin Hoxha and Minister of State for Local Government, Arbjan Mazniku, introduced the new Prefect of Elbasan District, Ilir Bejtja, who takes on this task, replacing former Prefect Ali Mysliu.
The ceremony held in the city of Elbasan was attended by local authorities, mayors of municipalities in the region, and local leaders, writes A2 CNN.
Minister Hoxha made a brief professional portrait of the new Prefect and at the same time wished him success in his assigned task.
"The new Prefect, Ilir Bejtja, is a personality with extensive knowledge and experience in public administration, with contributions as a member of parliament and recently, for several years, in the role of deputy minister. He comes to this position with a professional and institutional background, succeeding Prefect Ali Mysliu, who has resigned from this position. For the professor, as I expressed in the conversation I had with him, I have only appreciation and gratitude for the period he led the Prefecture", emphasized Minister Hoxha during the presentation.
Speaking about the tasks and commitment of state structures for the smooth conduct of the general elections on May 11, the Minister noted that "as May 11 approaches, the Prefect will have a key role in cooperation with electoral institutions and law enforcement agencies, to ensure a regular, fair and peaceful process. Taking all measures to guarantee electoral infrastructure and logistics will be a key priority for him in the coming weeks."
Further, regarding the role and commitments of the Prefect in public security, the Minister of Interior said that "one of the main challenges of the Prefect will be the strengthening of the Local Security Councils and coordination with law enforcement structures to guarantee public security. I would also like to inform citizens that the work to monitor the territory has begun with police checks and operations against the cultivation of narcotics."
Finally, speaking about development projects in the Elbasan region and the duties of the prefect, Minister Hoxha announced that "important projects are ongoing in the region, especially in road infrastructure, which make this area a key point, as well as an attraction for local and foreign visitors and tourists. As the highest representative of the government in the region, the Prefect should play a more active role in coordinating institutions, implementing development policies and increasing the efficiency of local administration."
