Former President Ilir Meta, from his cell, has called on citizens to join the protest called by the opposition this afternoon.
In a post on his Facebook account, Meta states that the entire country will be on its feet today, until the fall of the "regime", as he puts it.
The former president says that citizens should protest today for the lack of justice in the murder of 18-year-old Martin Cani, the forgotten pensioners, farmers, teachers, pedagogues, doctors and nurses.

Dear honest and patriotic Albanians,
I invite you all to join us today, at 5:00 PM, in the national protest against the Drug State, the fiercest enemy of your freedoms and rights, which has ruthlessly stolen and driven over 1 million Albanians from the country through an anti-national agenda of depopulation.
The young men and women whose hopes and dreams this cruel regime has killed will be on their feet today!
Today is the day to protest the unsolved murder of 18-year-old Martin Cani, whose dreams were shattered in the courtyard of the "Fan Noli" school in the heart of Tirana, so that we do not have such tragedies in the future and our children grow up not only well-educated but also safe in their Homeland.
Pensioners, who have contributed so much to the country and who are poorer today than in 2013, robbed, despised, and excluded, have many reasons why they will join us tonight.
Albanian farmers, from Kardhiqi where they are protesting now and all the way to Vermosh, who throw their labor and sacrifices down the drain, whose funds end up in incinerators that don't exist, will protest with us today for the extermination of livestock and the devastation of agriculture.
Teachers, lecturers, doctors and nurses, with the most miserable salaries in the region, will join us!
We protest today to save the Homeland from disintegration, to save the Albanian family and the sacred words Mother and Father from "Parent 1" and "Parent 2", to mobilize for the removal of the Chairman of the Organization that sells sovereignty to steal power, to end the narco-economic model based on the enrichment of a minority through the money laundering industry, and to pave the way for a new economic model that supports domestic producers and transforms Albania into an exporting power in the region.
We protest today to restore peace to Albanian families, a peace that has been severely threatened by the thuggery protected by the Narco-government.
We protest for a free vote and without the threats of drug patrons and the Narco-Government.
We protest for the lives and health threatened by the concrete of the towers.
All of Albania will be on its feet today until the final removal of this mafia-like and corrupt regime in every cell. (A2 Televizion)
