The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, stated that the opposition has forwarded to the United States a report that highlights the electoral violations of May 11, a report which, according to him, is also based on the previous OSCE-ODIHR report.
Mediu made the comments on the 'ÇdoKënd' show with journalist Merita Haklaj on A2 CNN, where he was asked why the US has not yet congratulated Prime Minister Edi Rama on his victory in the May 11 elections.
Mediu also said that currently the situation within the European Union is not good and, according to him, this is the reason why some of the European leaders are on the side of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
He also added that despite talk of Albania's entry into the European Union by 2030, currently the main EU states are against expansion.
Excerpts from the studio discussion:
Question: Why hasn't the US congratulated Rama on his election victory?
Mediu: I'm taking the European part today. Europe today has a big problem, it needs a success story and the success story is the enlargement in the Western Balkans. Until some time ago, the success story was considered Montenegro, despite the problems that that country has with Serbia and Russia. And so Rama's fascinating behavior of telling fairy tales and no Albanian reality, has become an acceptable story, showing that Albania is a marginal attention for the EU. From a signal that we have received in Brussels, they tell us look, Europe is like this, the Commission, etc., etc. Don't forget one thing, if I take the French President who says that Albania should be part of the EU by 2030, it is precisely France that does not accept the enlargement of the EU. It is precisely France that invented this Political Community of Europe. It is precisely Merz and he does not say a word about the enlargement and is skeptical. In the IDU it was said that immigrants from Africa have been stopped from going to Italy, telling them that they will end up in Albania, which is outside Europe. So Albania is seen as a pawn to stop immigrants from Africa. As for the USA, we have followed a report in the USA on the problems of the elections, based also on the OSCE report. This seems like a fight for Berisha, no. This is a fight to guarantee free and fair elections. (A2 Televizion)
