For the first time in his long political career, Prime Minister Edi Rama is running in the capital as a candidate for MP in the May 11 elections.
The leader of the Socialist Party described the decision to run in Tirana as a new mission, as he held a meeting with supporters in the Kashari area this evening.
"The case brought me to be a deputy of Tirana, I have never been before and I am this time because of this duty. I was saying that it seems that being a deputy of Tirana is a new mission for me and because of following the campaign I have been to many parts of Tirana that I have not seen, and I have seen extraordinary changes, it is something completely different from how it was. Given that when we pulled Tirana out of an extraordinary, unimaginable swamp, and the city began to develop, my perception has lagged behind in relation to many parts of the city that have been fully integrated", said Rama.
To show that the Tirana he knew as mayor has grown and advanced greatly in the 12 years he has served as prime minister, Rama took the example of Astir, which has become one of the new centers of the capital.
"You would be surprised if I told you that before Astir, for example, did not exist. In this great transformation, I have seen many things that we need to address. In these conditions today, this city has the potential to become better for its citizens. Once upon a time, Tirana had a center and everyone revolved around it, the city has become larger and life has been divided into many parts, the city also has other centers, where there are communities that live around that center. I am referring to the Kombinat, Kashari and the Astir area, which have created an important base of workforce, energy, full of life and which have needs that if we address them properly, the quality of life becomes many times better.
