Rama: We lost a 500 thousand euro trial in the Appeals Court, but we will

Prime Minister Edi Rama declared today that the Albanian state has lost a trial in the Appeals Court and has been ordered by the Court to pay 500 thousand euros for a car accident that occurred eight years ago, even though there were no deaths or injuries in the incident.

In the Socialist Party's victory speech, Rama said that this is one of the consequences of justice which, according to him, acts independently and uninfluenced by politics, but which often produces unexpected decisions.

"We cannot provide justice for many Albanians who are seeking justice. We lost a trial in the Appeal Court where the state was asked to pay 500 thousand euros for a car crash 8 years ago, where there were no deaths or injuries, but the driver and the driver had the vision to sue the state for endangering life. The decision was made within a day and the state was hit with 500 thousand euros. We cannot correct the mistakes that occur in the courtrooms for the state either. We do not have the fate of anyone behind the doors of the judicial power in our hands," Rama said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government does not influence judicial decision-making, but has a duty to be an example in respecting the law and a shield for the independence of justice, mentioning in particular the unequivocal support for SPAK.

"We do not have the fate of anyone behind the doors of the judicial power in our hands. But we do have the power to lead by example, to be as just as possible and to be an unbreakable shield of the independence of justice institutions, starting with SPAK, which we will continue to support unequivocally," he emphasized.
