Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected the construction works for the new National Theater, a project by architect Bjarke Ingels and the Danish studio BIG.
The project is being developed in the area where the National Theatre is currently located at the intersection of pedestrian axes. The building is divided into two parts: one for the actors and administration, and another for the public, with the main function of the theatre. Both parts have separate access. The public will have access from the main facade or another entrance under the arch. While the roof part of the building will also serve as an open theatre/auditorium, where the public can sit on the stairs for various activities.
"We will finish the carabiner within October and then continue with the artistic part. The part of all the mechanisms that will be built for scenography and other technological facilities of the stages will continue later in the rest of the contract. The whole idea of the spaces that are created, if you look at the beams that have been placed, to carry out the idea of the public space that will be added by the construction. This is what the view will look like from this angle, this will be the staircase that goes up to the space that is outside the amphitheatres above", said Deputy Mayor Ristani, as she referred to the project exhibited there.
The New Theater will also be integrated with other art-related infrastructures that will be built.
"There are about 4500 square meters of public square up to the back. We also talked with the architects about the public space and the relationship with the New Museum of Fine Arts, what we talked about last time during the inspection, so that we can integrate it all." - said the Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja, as he emphasized that "We will also come up with the technological part of the stage because this takes it to a certain level and makes it ready. We are already setting up groups with the National Theater so that we come up with it, so that nothing is missing.
For his part, Prime Minister Rama emphasized that the New Theater will be the most beautiful national theater in the entire region. "Everything must be done, the back square, the gallery square, the pedestrian street, the square here must be done, everything must be closed, as a complete thing. One thing must be done to be like the second square of Tirana. That is, by the end of October we will have the shell closed and you will all see what kind of National Theater we will have in terms of architectural form. It will be without any doubt the most beautiful national theater in the entire region and will be among the most beautiful national theaters built after the Second World War, because before the Second World War there are monuments that are unrivaled in their form in Europe. "So, this is the time when a little patience and all those hurt by the loss of what we had, which was a nostalgic building, but without any lasting value to continue to stay there, will feel relieved because in addition to the theater, we also have a completely different square that the center of Tirana gains, in front of and behind the theater," he said.
