Prime Minister Edi Rama has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor by the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog. This award is given to important world personalities in politics. According to him, this is an honor for the example that Albanians gave to the world by not surrendering any Jew, as well as religious and ethnic tolerance.
“It is an honor and a pleasure to award you the Presidential Medal of Honor of Israel. The Presidential Medal of Honor of Israel honors those who have illuminated the world with their extraordinary leadership, moral clarity, and democratic values, and those who have demonstrated their courageous friendship with the Jewish people and Israel. The Albanian code of faith, the sacred oath of honor, is felt in this hall. Faith has guided the Albanian nation and carried the torch of light in the darkest hours. During the Holocaust, the Albanian people were a symbol of honor and courage. They courageously gave shelter to Jewish men and women fleeing from other parts of Europe, and in doing so helped protect and preserve humanity in the face of the greatest crimes among human beings. This call to integrity and honor, deeply rooted in your people, finds echoes in your uncompromising stance against anti-Semitism and hatred. I was personally moved during my visit to Tirana in September by the touching compassion,” the Israeli president said.
