Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting today with Albanians in Crete, Greece.
During his speech, Rama said that Crete is a very important island, as according to him, it is the place of Zeus and the place from which Europa took its name.
The chief executive also said that well-known figures, as well as important men of the Greek state, were born in Crete.
According to Rama, the current Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, also has origins from Crete, writes A2 CNN.
"Thank you very much and finally gave me the opportunity to come here to Crete, to the birthplace of Zeus, to the place where the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Ottomans were replaced one by another, until in 1913 Crete joined Greece. Here, according to mythology, Zeus kidnapped the princess and then took her somewhere else and her name was Europa.
This is where Europe got its name and why Crete is known as the cradle of European civilization. Many people were born here who have given much not only to Greece, but to all of Europe and to world culture.
"Important statesmen were born here, from Lefteros Venizelos to Konstantinos Mitsotakis, and the current prime minister, our friend Kyriakos Mitsotakis, also originated here. Here too, the Arvanites are known for having been the defenders of Crete for years," Rama said, among other things. (A2 Televizion)
