The diaspora could be given 4 more days to register for the parliamentary elections if political parties agree. With this stance, Ilirjan Celibashi commented on Sali Berisha's request to extend the registration deadline. But according to the state election commissioner, the Electoral Code does not allow for an extension beyond March 9.

The Democrats' request to extend the deadline for diaspora registration for the May 11 parliamentary elections by two weeks faces two obstacles. The first is the electoral code and the second is the agreement of the Socialists. For the first, the CEC says that the possibilities are for a partial fulfillment of Sali Berisha's wish, by extending the deadline by 4 days, while for the second, the negotiation goes beyond Ilirjan Celibashi's office.

"We cannot go beyond the 9th. The discussion remains whether it can be extended from the 4th to the 9th. There was a request from the DP to extend this deadline, from a technical point of view for us as an institution there is no problem. The SP did not agree and according to the SP's reasoning, extending the deadline would bring more confusion than benefit," said Celibashi.

So far, there are about 42 Albanian citizens who have applied, but their requests have been rejected due to various inaccuracies. The head of the CEC expresses his willingness to take a proactive role to encourage these citizens to reapply successfully, but even this will of Celibashi remains in the hands of political humor, writes A2 CNN.

"The possibility of the CEC having a few more days available to assist in their re-application process should be considered. And if we manage to treat this number of voters individually, as we have been doing for several days, I think it would be beneficial, but I think consensus is needed. History has shown that political parties change approaches based on their interests, such as the appointment of electronic voting and counting only in the Municipality of Vora and unit no. 10 of Tirana, leaving more than 300 devices unused on May 11. The request to limit electronics came precisely from the DP, which had previously insisted on its use. Perhaps it is better this way, for this process to be confidential, than for this process to be opposed at the beginning," said Celibashi.

Political negotiations - if there will be any - should be lightning fast, after March 4th concludes the entire diaspora registration process and the CEC should continue with other procedural steps. (A2 Televizion)
