The arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has caused an unprecedented and dangerous reaction from the Prime Minister towards SPAK.
"The threatening tones towards prosecutors and the attempt to intimidate the GJKKO are a direct attack on the independence of the judiciary and an open attempt to sabotage the fight against corruption."
These attacks and threats, which were typical of Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, today, through Edi Rama, gave the final shape to the "Coalition of Kleptomaniacs".
We also condemn the shameful and orchestrated protests by supporters of Rama, Berisha, Meta and Veliaj, which bring back the scenes of the rallies of “Enver’s Volunteers” in 1991, clearly showing that the old politics is ready to use any means to protect its corruption and clientelism. “Right 1912”, as the first parliamentary party to have openly declared its support for the extension of the mandate of SPAK prosecutors, encourages and supports the justice bodies to continue their work in investigating and prosecuting high corruption and organized crime. This is the only way to get Albania out of the endless transition and from the clutches of impunity that has held the country hostage for 34 years”, the reaction states. (A2 Televizion)
