The reconstruction of homes that were damaged or collapsed by the devastating earthquake of November 26, 2019 will be completed within the year, if the Democrats come to power after May 11.
This was promised by Sali Berisha during a visit to the city of Durrës where he met with residents affected by the earthquake almost 6 years ago and who still do not have a new home.
"On May 11th, I guarantee that this situation will end immediately and your house and all the houses that are for renovation will be renovated with absolute priority. New ones will be built where they are to be built, where they cannot hold up and must be demolished."
The democratic leader leveled accusations against the local administration, saying that they only think about getting rich and do not help citizens.
"Hundreds of families have not been given the rent bonus. They have not been given the rent bonus for a year and a half. They also do not pay salaries on time. The administration itself sometimes delays salaries by 10 days. This is because these people gamble with citizens' salaries."
Vangjush Dako has not been leading the Durres Municipality for years, but according to Berisha, his influence in the area is still significant. While speaking to residents of the Kënetë area, the democratic leader accused Dako of building a villa on army property.
"The day before yesterday, a friend of mine was telling me that Gjushi has built a villa on the public land of the convalescent home. 900 meters! Imagine, Gjushi from the dungeon, from the cell, builds a 2-3-story villa on the territory of the army convalescent home where the director is a man tainted with all kinds of crime."
