The chairman of the Albanian Democratic League (LZHK), MP Dashamir Shehi, has called on political parties to stop the campaign they are conducting in the diaspora for the vote of emigrants. From the rostrum of the Parliament, Shehi said that this campaign is already very costly, is dividing Albanian emigrants and is transmitting to them the spirit of Albanian politics.
"Now we are going to every corner of the world to seek a handful of votes, bringing our mentality there. And we are making a big mistake, because those gentlemen who were brothers and helped each other in that community, on the 12th, one coffee will no longer be enough, but 2 coffees. Because one will be blue and the other red. We ask that with the vote of the diaspora we expand the dimension of freedom and democracy that we lack here, while you want to make an extension of the sad Albanian reality. Let it be that you are spending money in vain. Because if you had spent it here, your vote would have been cheaper, because now it has become more expensive. Therefore, I suggest that this campaign be stopped. It is enough to add to the immigration law that they will not pay anything like the first time and it is very ok".
According to Shehi, this law was made to expand the space of freedom and democracy that our country lacked, not to prolong the sad Albanian reality.
"I am the one who pushed for the law on the diaspora vote and I am very happy that the day is coming when our brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces that we have around the world can vote. However, this campaign that you have started from both sides, with rallies abroad, is doing nothing but transferring this bad political climate there. The law was made so that these people can vote freely, because they are not under pressure from the administration, they are not under the violence of the government and crime, it is not their business to be subjected to the violence of inspectors, etc. And in the end, they live in a more liberal and democratic reality than that of Albania."
