Following her official visit to Sofia, Speaker of the Parliament Elisa Spiropali was received by the Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament, Nataliya Kiselova. Spiropali is the first female speaker invited to the Bulgarian Parliament, after the election of Speaker Kiselova, writes A2.
“The intensification of parliamentary cooperation between the Parliament and the National Assembly will promote bilateral relations as well as political dialogue between Albania and Bulgaria, which are currently excellent, stable and without any unresolved issues between the two countries. Close parliamentary cooperation will continue through the exchange of high-level visits, friendship groups, parliamentary committees and deputies. This interaction will also increase in the context of the challenges of the Parliament’s leadership in the European integration process, for which we also have the political and technical support of the National Assembly of Bulgaria. We, Albanians, are proud to have a friendly and partner country like Bulgaria, which is among the strongest supporters of our national objective to join the European Union by 2030. Albania is at the forefront of the candidate countries towards the EU and we note with satisfaction that this plan, which has won the support of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the parliaments of many member states, also has the firm support of the National Assembly and Bulgaria. Accelerating the accession of the Western Balkan countries, as a merit-based process and an enlargement priority, is also important for the European Union itself. We live in turbulent times and a larger Europe means a stronger and more secure Europe. The Parliament and the National Assembly will promote economic and trade relations between the two countries, which should be raised to the level of political dialogue and friendship between peoples. For this, we can follow the model of cooperation in the field of tourism, for which in October 2024 the two countries signed the Joint Action Plan, and social protection, the bilateral agreement for which is being implemented. Economic, trade and other exchanges serve the rapprochement and well-being of our people. Parliaments support the strengthening of the defense capacities of our countries as NATO members, based on national interests, the principles of Euro-Atlantic integration and the need to guarantee security and protect peace in the region, Europe and in the world," said Spiropali.
Speaker Kiselova praised Albania's achievements towards membership in the European Union, congratulated Spiropali on the adoption by the European Parliament on July 9 of the Resolution on Albania, which was voted for by all Bulgarian MEPs, and praised our country as a champion in fulfilling the membership criteria: "Albania's objective for membership by 2030 has the firm support of Bulgaria and your plan is also ours. The National Assembly of Bulgaria, in addition to political support, will also provide technical assistance to the Assembly in the European integration process."
