Children's rights are part of the negotiations between Albania and the EU. At the regional conference on reforms in the protection of minors and equality of opportunities, the EU ambassador urged Tirana officials that the reforms to be undertaken in this area must be implemented to transform society, especially at a time when brain drain is still a problem in the region.
"Children should have effective access to free healthcare, access to quality and affordable education and have decent housing but also food and proper nutrition. All children, especially those who experience social exclusion due to poverty or other forms, should have equal opportunities. This is important for the region in particular, where there is still a brain drain. The accession process does not only mean the approval of legislation, but requires the transformation of the entire society in all its aspects. Children's rights are part of the basic chapter group, while EU legislation on social policies and education is covered by chapter group 3, which we hope will open soon", said Gonzato.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that work is being done to increase the number of social teachers for this category of children, while also mentioning the opening of classes for children who are hospitalized.
"One of the points we aim to make a quantitative and qualitative leap in financing and organization and interaction with other partners is addressing the situation of 16 thousand children with special abilities, who are beneficiaries of new support schemes, but who I believe at this stage and the conditions when our economic opportunities increase deserve increased support from our side. An increase in support that is not simply financial but also institutional. For this, the Ministry of Health and Education are working to increase the number of special teachers, as yesterday we opened a new chapter in our health service system with the opening of first classes for children in the hospital, teaching and art classes, which serve children so that they do not lose contact with learning, starting with the provision of food in schools by the municipalities of the district center, going back in this direction, as well as the project that we have to support even more, although we have established special support for mothers with three children."
