The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, received today the Letters of Credentials of the new Ambassador of Italy to Albania, Marco Alberti.
According to the Presidency's announcement, Begaj expressed his willingness and that of Albanian institutions to assist the new Italian ambassador in fulfilling his duties during his diplomatic mandate in Tirana.
The excellent relations between Albania and Italy were appreciated at the meeting, while the full commitment to deepening the strategic partnership based on stable historical, economic and cultural relations was emphasized, the Presidency's announcement further states.
The political dialogue between the two states was considered intense and positive in all areas of cooperation.
"Frequent contacts demonstrate our commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, based on mutual strategic interests as NATO allies with a common future in the EU", said the President of the Republic, reconfirming that as partners and allies in NATO, Albania and Italy share common positions on international political issues.
"Albania will always be grateful to Italy for its continuous and vocal support for the EU's enlargement policy and for its proactive role in protecting and supporting Albania's EU perspective," said President Begaj.
It is learned that during the meeting, the Arbëresh of Italy were also discussed, who in recent years have been at the center of several activities of the Presidents of Albania and Italy.
The Arbëresh have served and continue to serve as a bridge between the two states, demonstrating a valuable experience in how minorities can integrate into the lives of the countries where they live.
The integration of Albanians in Italy, who have arrived there in the last three decades, was also appreciated. At the same time, Italian businesses operating in Albania and tourist exchanges also contribute to the relations between the two countries.
