The meeting of the Tirana Municipal Council this Thursday was accompanied by debates between representatives of the majority and those of the opposition. The latter requested that other items for discussion be included in the agenda, such as the issue of Mayor Erion Veliaj, who has been under "prison arrest" for several months, but also the recent request of Prime Minister Edi Rama to dismiss the deputy mayors and directors of the municipality, writes A2 CNN.
"Veliaj is no longer a person under investigation, but a defendant," said Democratic councilor Dorian Teliti. "We received an e-mail from Mrs. (Joleza, SP member in the Municipal Council) Koka, where she expressed her concern about Palestine. But you don't say a word about the invasion that Edi Rama has made of the Municipality of Tirana, violating the law on local autonomy," said another opposition councilor, Ilda Zhulali.
But their requests were rejected by the majority, while the acting speaker, Anuela Ristani, read the agenda items, which highlighted the transfer of the Palace of Congresses to government ownership, as the building is expected to undergo reconstruction. (A2 Televizion)
