After the Special Court left the Mayor of Tirana, Erjon Veliaj, in prison, Prime Minister Edi Rama continued his defense against him again today. In the "eye to eye" section with the followers announced yesterday evening, the head of government raised questions about the standards of justice. According to him, the mayor's contract with the voters cannot be terminated without evidence and facts.
"But what are the elected officials who receive votes from the people, to run the country or the city? These are just cannon fodder for a power that was so powerful that it terminated the contract of the mayor of the capital with the voters, without any evidence. Who is responsible for that contract? Who runs the Municipality of Tirana? The mayor has not been found guilty, he is not even a defendant, he is simply a suspect. Who will do the work for which there is a municipality and for which the citizens have elected mayors? Who? Stamo Dumua? Not to make this a super-prosecutor here. We have been given a super-special court that increases the weight of the previous sentence, without judging at all."
The head of government clarified that his statement is not an attack on SPAK or the court, but rather a request from him for democratic standards of justice, which as majority leader he voted for even though the existence of the government was being violated.
"How can this attack on SPAK be called or pressure on the court to raise such a principled problem that has to do with the legitimate request for a prime minister, for me as the leader of the force that gave life to SPAK in the face of many possible hostilities that you do not know all, putting on the table the existence of the government: Either vote for the reform, or overthrow the government! Because I am not interested in the government and I should not make such a request for democratic standards."
The head of government said that his battle is for our country to sit at the EU table as an equal. He invited young people to join the battle.
"What does the standard mean? My soul is on the tip of my nose, at no point in history has anyone laid a rug on young people, let those who have something to do prove it with battle and win. I am here to seat you at the EU table. I am here to see with my own eyes that Albania at that table. And to see the red and black flag there. That is why I am here and this is my whole battle from A to Z, then do whatever you want. Who takes you there, who speaks to you there as equals? Who is the swamp owl or these barbecues that come for meatballs down here. Remember that this is a restaurant or beach pleasure? This is a daily struggle, it is a sacrifice, it is a denial of many things that ordinary people have. This is the mission. I am here for history, that is why I bear all this sludge and mud and swallowing and stones from all four sides, all kinds of scoundrels from all sides". (A2 Televizion)
