Diaspora vote, unusual countries where Albanians will vote

The Central Election Commission will send 245,808 ballots by mail to 85 countries, for as many immigrants as are registered to vote in the May 11 elections.

The largest number of ballots will be sent to Italy, a full 91,210, followed by Greece, Germany, the US and the United Kingdom with a significant number of registered immigrants.

The countries where the CEC will only send one ballot are Fiji, Georgia, Isle of Man, Jordan, Liechtenstein, Madagascar, Moldova, Monaco, Philippines, South Korea, Iran, Laos Democratic Republic and Venezuela.

The extensive list of unusual countries from which Albanians have shown interest in voting includes Kazakhstan, Liberia, Chile, the Faroe Islands, India, Brazil, Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

On April 5, the process for preparing election materials will begin, and on April 10, the ballot is expected to be sent to voters abroad.

"On April 5, at the Olympic Park we begin the preparation of election materials (filling envelopes) which we then send to the diaspora. The environment satisfies the needs of all parties," said the head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi.
