Does technology harm children? Parents give up their cell phones, experts share

These are scenes that we encounter in almost every environment of our daily lives. Now an inseparable part of life, technology has affected all age groups, especially young children, shaking the traditional balance of child-parent relationships.

The latter themselves claim that often due to work, lack of other social activities, or inability, they allow their children to spend more time on their phones than necessary, but without denying the help that these devices have brought to their development.

And while technology offers numerous opportunities for education and entertainment, it also brings challenges and risks.

Given the effects that electronic devices have on young children, experts hold different positions regarding the relationship that children should have with them.

Speech therapist Spiro Saqellari believes that, at least in Albania, these digital devices are leading to the loss of the role of the parent. According to him, the negative consequences outweigh the benefits that technology can bring, placing emphasis on the increased cases of autism spectrum disorders.

On the other hand, for sociologist Gëzim Tushi, technology is now part of everyday life and it should not be blamed. According to him, it is up to the parent to see technological devices as a tool for education and development for the child.

According to the latest UNICEF report in Albania, the average age when children first access the internet is 9 years old, and 1/3 of them have access even earlier. (A2 Televizion)
