The holiday season increases the tendency to abuse food and drinks, whether alcoholic or with coloring. For individuals who have kidney problems, food care should be the focus of attention. This is because the level of some elements can increase in the blood, which can worsen the health condition. Patients with kidney problems should immediately reduce the level of phosphorus in the blood. This element, taken in high doses, can lead to the thinning of bones and their easy breakage. Likewise, the feeling of itching on the skin is an alarm signal that the body has a high amount of phosphorus in the blood, so you should constantly measure its level.
Invited to the studio of the "Diagnosis" show on A2 CNN, Prof. Asc. Marsida Duli, nephrologist from Premium Clinic, advised following a special care for patients suffering from kidneys.
"We tell all our patients who suffer from kidney problems, please be careful, reduce the amount of phosphorus, so use products that have low phosphorus and low potassium. If the added values of phosphorus increase, it directly affects the osteoarticular system. An impact on calcium balance and bone thinning, in other words, the bones of our patients are more brittle. It shows side effects such as itching, bone pain, joint pain, the priority is itching, so it is what worries our patients. Itching is a sign of increased phosphorus in the blood as a result of injury. Blood phosphorus test should be done. The other element is potassium, potassium which is important both in therapies and in the food diet, which should be reduced", said the doctor.
The high level of uric acid in the blood is another element that does not favor the kidney at all. Patients with organ problems should take special care. This acid increases from the intake of food products, as the kidney, due to the disease, is unable to clean and excrete it through urine.
"The increase in uric acid, in addition to being higher, it starts and worsens the function of the kidney on the other hand. On the one hand, the kidney is damaged and decreases as a result of the decrease in its function, it does not perform its function properly, i.e. it does not properly eliminate uric acid through the urine, i.e. in its function, but on the other hand it increases as as a result of the increased intake and increased metabolism from the excessive consumption of products that produce uric acid, and then the piercings, pains, the joints begin, so they are more painful, especially the knee joint, the leg joint, of the elbow, of the hand. The predisposition to form crystals and stones of uric acid increases, especially in a season when we are also dealing with citrus products that are used and have added vitamin C, the predisposition to form crystals and stones of uric acid also increases . said the nephrologist.
Among the foods that can be consumed without a problem, is that of turkey. It contains iron, which helps people with anemia. It also contains phosphorus and potassium which are important for health. Studies show that turkey meat has tryptophan, an amino acid that improves muscle and bone pain.
"Turkey has extraordinary values, in its composition, there are increased amounts of iron, which is very important for the treatment of anemia, for those who have ferritinemia and therefore low hemoglobin values. On the other hand, there is phosphorus, there is potassium, which in a healthy patient, taken and used in certain and not exaggerated portions, have extraordinary values. Recent studies have shown that turkey contains a very important amino acid that promotes the production of serotonin and is one of the main hormones in humans that regulates mood, is anti-stress and reduces pain, and is tryptophan. It is the amino acids of tryptophan that affect exactly the state of mood and the reduction of pain, so it has extraordinary effects", said nephrologist Marsida Duli.
