Renal diseases in Fier have increased significantly. Statistics speak of 1200 patients registered during 2024, of whom 75 need a renal transplant, while 120 of them are treated with hemodialysis, writes A2 CNN. According to the nephrologist at the Fier Regional Hospital, Shpresa Stase, the most affected age group is over 60 years old, mainly those with heart disease, diabetes or urinary tract infections.

Among the causes that lead to kidney dysfunction are sedentary lifestyle, malnutrition, alcohol use, etc., the nephrologist stated, while emphasizing that screening is extremely important to catch the disease in its initial stages.
