Arsenal footballer charged with five counts of rape

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged by British police with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The incidents are alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 and involve three different women, A2 CNN reports. According to authorities, two counts of rape involve one woman, three counts involve a second woman, and the sexual assault charge is attributed to a third woman.

The 32-year-old's contract with Arsenal ended on Monday after a four-year spell at the club, having joined from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 for a fee of £45.3m. He made 130 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, scoring nine goals. Last season, Partey scored four goals in 35 appearances in the top flight and made 12 appearances in the Champions League, helping the London club reach the semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.

The investigation into the matter began in February 2022, when police received the first report of rape. Detective Constable Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said the police's priority is to provide support to women who have come forward and reported abuse.

Thomas Partey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5. BBC News reported that it has contacted Arsenal for comment, but has not yet received an official response. (A2 Televizion)
