A tragic event has shocked the sports community in Italy. Simona Cinà, 20 years old and former player of the Acds Capacense Volley volleyball team in the Italian Serie D, was found dead in a swimming pool during a party at a private villa in Bagheria, near Palermo.
According to preliminary data, the young woman is suspected to have fallen into the water and was unable to escape. The emergency team arrived at the scene, but was pronounced dead. The Carabinieri have launched an investigation, while an autopsy has been ordered, writes A2 CNN.
The family's lawyer, Gabriele Giambrone, has raised serious doubts about the official version: "The pool was small and the villa was full of young people. How is it possible that no one saw her? Simona was face up. It is not normal that she was left in the water for so long without being noticed."
The volleyball team where she played until last year has reacted with pain. "We are devastated. Simona was a bright girl, who loved sports and life. For her, volleyball was everything," said president Paolo Di Maggio. (A2 Televizion)
