The European Union is sorting out the mistakes in the Brussels-mediated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in order to revive the process of normalizing relations between the two neighboring countries, the bloc's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said during a visit to Podgorica, Montenegro.
Asked about the stalled dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia during a press conference with Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, Kallas said: "This is an ongoing process. We have a new special representative for the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade and we are talking with him to see what works and what doesn't. What is important to us is the normalization of relations, because without this neither side can move forward on the path towards the EU. So what we will do this month is sit down with Special Representative Sorensen to review what are the mistakes regarding the process, in order to revitalize it."
Kallas did not provide further details on what she believes were the mistakes or what has gone wrong so far in the bloc-mediated dialogue. In an earlier interview with Radio Free Europe, the bloc's foreign policy chief suggested that the EU could consider some other alternative instrument to the dialogue to enable normalization.
During the conference, Kallas hailed Montenegro's commitment to reforms as impressive. She expressed optimism about the closure of negotiation chapters with the EU, and said that good relations with neighbors will help in this regard.
Montenegro is Kallas' first stop in the Balkans. On Tuesday, she will stop in Tirana, then continue on to Bosnia and Herzegovina. (A2 Televizion)
