Lithuania and Latvia have banned Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić from flying over their airspace, Serbian media outlet Novosti reported, citing "technical and diplomatic sensitivity" as the reason.
"After Lithuania, Latvian authorities have also stopped the flight of a Serbian plane to Moscow carrying Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Latvian authorities banned the Serbian plane from flying over the country due to, as they state, the "political sensitivity of the purpose of the flight," Novosti writes, reports A2 CNN.
Vučić planned to travel to Moscow, even though Russia has been aiming to invade Ukraine since 2022 and is therefore under Western sanctions.
We recall that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was banned from flying over Poland and Lithuania, in order to prevent him from participating in the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism.
The Russian leader's aide, Yuri Ushakov, said earlier today that Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold bilateral talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on May 9.
