Tragedy in Kocani, over 100 psychologists will provide psychosocial support to

Following the tragedy that shook the city of Kocani on March 16, more than 100 psychologists from Skopje schools have been engaged to provide psychosocial support to pupils, students and family members affected by the event. This group of psychologists, which includes specialized experts, has begun providing direct support on the ground to those affected by this tragedy.

Minister of Education, Vesna Janevska, announced that 32 psychologists from Skopje have completed a specialized training to help individuals who have experienced deep trauma after the terrible event. This training was conducted in cooperation with the Chamber of Psychologists, the Bureau for the Development of Education and UNICEF, and aims to provide psychologists with the necessary assistance to students and family members who have lost loved ones or have been directly affected by this event.

"Psychologists are engaged in schools where there are victims, but also in schools where the brothers, sisters and parents of the victims are. They are working in groups and individually with those affected, providing emotional support and helping them cope with the consequences of this tragedy," said Minister Janevska.

She also added that this is a process that requires time and careful organization, but it is very important that those affected have such support that can help them cope with the situation.

Psychologists are deployed in the cities of Kocani, Vinica, Shtip and Çešinovë-Obleshevo, providing psychosocial support on the ground. The participants in the training are prepared to provide the most appropriate assistance to each individual, with a special focus on those who are most vulnerable, such as students and parents who have lost loved ones. Each school has a psychologist assigned, and they are engaged in careful planning of meetings, enabling individuals to have the necessary support in the most difficult moments.

In addition to psychosocial support, measures have also been taken to provide financial support to the affected families. The government has announced that 150,000 denars will be allocated to each family affected by the tragedy. This fund will serve to cover immediate expenses and provide the necessary assistance to cope with the first days after the event. According to government spokeswoman Marija Miteva, all donations that have been collected so far through the official Red Cross account will be used only to help the affected families. She stressed the importance of assistance through safe and official channels, to ensure that the funds reach where they are needed most.

At the moment, 48,172,115 denars have been collected so far for the affected families, a figure that shows the great solidarity of Macedonian citizens and society.
