Two days before the announced meeting between the chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, the special envoy for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, met with the Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade.
Earlier, Lajcak held talks with the head of the Office for Kosovo, Petkovic, who was also Serbia's chief negotiator in the dialogue process. After the meeting between Vucic and Lajcak, in which Petkovic also participated, the latter said that Beorgadi had accepted the European Union's invitation to continue talks in Brussels on Thursday, where the new proposal for the association of municipalities with Serbian majority.
"We accepted Lajcak's invitation to meet in Brussels in two days, where the talks between Belgrade and Pristina will continue. Our side is well prepared and will go with a special team of experts to discuss the text of the draft statute. It is the first step towards the formation of the Association of Serbian Majority Municipalities", said Petar Petkovic.
According to Petkovic, the issue of association is the most important for Kosovo Serbs, along with the easing of tensions, something that, as he said, Vucic had insisted on. He added that the president had also mentioned the constant threats faced by Serbs in the north and what he called escalating actions by Prime Minister Albin Kurti. The special envoy, Miroslav Lajçak, visited Pristina last week, where he talked with the Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi and representatives of the opposition on the new draft statute.
