The new road signs on the Skopje-Tetovo highway, in North Macedonia, will be in three languages - Macedonian, English and French - thus eliminating the Albanian language.
If until yesterday the Albanian language was alongside the other three languages, now it is missing, as can be seen in this sign, located near the toll booth in Glumovë.
The Public Enterprise for State Roads in the Republic of Macedonia has not provided any explanation as to why Albanian is not listed, while the signs were changed late Saturday afternoon in the dark.
After the publication of the footage, Ali Ahmeti's DUI also reacted, condemning the lack of Albanian language on road signs.
"Albanian language signs are replaced with Macedonian language signs, which removes the Albanian language from traffic signs. The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) strongly condemns the change of traffic signs on the Skopje-Tetovo highway, namely near the Glumov toll booth, by the Public Enterprise for State Roads. Albanian language signs are replaced with Macedonian language signs, which removes the Albanian language from traffic signs. This change is a serious blow to the use of the Albanian language in the Republic of Macedonia and a flagrant violation of the Law on the Use of Languages," the DUI's response states.
The disappearance of the Albanian language from road signs constitutes a violation and disrespect of the law on the use of languages in North Macedonia, and the decision also goes against the Constitution and the Ohrid Agreement. (A2 Televizion)
