A death zone! This is how the World Health Organization describes the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza City after a visit to the complex.
A joint UN team led by WHO inspected the hospital for an hour after its occupation and evacuation by the Israeli army. The team said it saw evidence of bombings and gunfire and witnessed a mass grave at the entrance to the hospital. According to them, 80 bodies were found there.
After the military-ordered evacuation of Tel Aviv, 300 seriously ill patients remain in what was once Gaza's largest and most modern hospital.
The WHO said it was trying to enable the emergency evacuation of remaining patients and repeated calls for a ceasefire, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the war will continue until the end, while hailing his army as the most moral in the world.
Thus, the White House responded to the Washington Post report, according to which Israel, Hamas and the US were close to an agreement that would allow the release of women and children taken hostage by Hamas in exchange for a 5-day ceasefire.
A spokesman said that such an agreement had not yet been reached but that it was being worked on. More than 12,300 people have been killed in Gaza since October 7, according to the Ministry of Health there, while at least 2,000 others are believed to be under the rubble.
