Jordanian authorities arrested 16 people today, preventing a plot that threatened the country's national security and included attacks with missiles, explosives and a drone manufacturing factory.
A security source said the suspects are linked to the Palestinian organization Hamas, which is accused of instigating anti-government protests in Jordan and has been under close surveillance since 2021.
According to government spokesman Mohammad al-Maoumuni, members of the Muslim Brotherhood were involved in a plan to launch attacks on the country's infrastructure.
According to Jordanian authorities, at least one missile was ready to be launched. “A factory for the production of drones was also found,” the General Intelligence Service said in a statement carried by state media.
"The group aimed to undermine national security, sow chaos and cause material destruction within the kingdom," the statement added.
Authorities released a video showing the suspects, some of whom said they were recruited by the Muslim Brotherhood. Some received money and training abroad, particularly in Lebanon, according to a Jordanian government source, who also said the suspects had ready-made rockets with a range of 3 to 5 kilometers.
