Britain says there is "no agreement" with France on Ukraine ceasefire

France and Britain have not agreed on a partial ceasefire plan for Ukraine, a British minister said on Monday, AFP news agency reports, after French President Emmanuel Macron said such a proposal had been made by the two countries.

Macron told the French newspaper Le Figaro on Sunday that London and Paris are proposing a month-long ceasefire in Ukraine "in the air, at sea and for energy infrastructure."

Macron said this ceasefire would initially not include ground fighting.

"No agreement has been reached on what a ceasefire would look like," British Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard told Times Radio.

"But we are working together with France and our European allies to consider what the path is towards creating a lasting peace in Ukraine," he added.

A British government official also downplayed any potential deal.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, he told Reuters that "there are different options on the table, which are subject to further discussions with the US and European partners, but a month-long ceasefire has not been agreed."

Macron's comments came after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for urgent talks on Ukraine with European leaders, NATO chief Mark Rutte, and Canada, in central London on Sunday.

"As the Prime Minister said in his press conference, we need and want to move forward rapidly and we are pleased that the summit has enabled discussions to move forward. These discussions will continue at a rapid pace," a Downing Street spokesman said.

The meeting included dozens of European leaders, including the Ukrainian president.

Also present at the meeting in London were Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa.

No US representative attended the conference. Zelensky's visit to Washington on February 28 was cut short after a clash with President Donald Trump and US Vice President JD Vance. /REL (A2 Televizion)
